Kangan: In a decisive step toward strengthening the power infrastructure in the Kangan constituency, Hon’ble MLA Mian Meher Ali today chaired a high-level review meeting with senior officials from the Power Development Department (PDD) and Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL). The meeting focused on addressing persistent power-related issues and expediting key development projects.

The meeting was attended by the Managing Director of KPDCL, Chief Engineer Projects, Superintending Engineers of PDD and STD, Executive Engineers, and Assistant Executive Engineers of PDD Manigam and Kangan, along with AEE STD from Kangan and Ganderbal.

One of the most significant decisions taken during the meeting was the official approval for the establishment of a new Receiving Station at Mammar in Kangan.

This project is expected to bring substantial improvement in the electricity distribution network and ensure greater reliability for local consumers.

The authorities also agreed to augment the existing Receiving Stations at Sumbal and Surfraw to meet the growing electricity demands and reduce problems arising from overloads. In addition, a new transformer will soon be installed in Kangan town to address long-pending issues of low voltage and frequent power outages.

During the meeting, it was revealed that the Wangath Receiving Station will be commissioned within the next one and a half months. This commissioning is expected to improve the overall power scenario in Wangath and nearby areas.

The Hon’ble MLA emphasized the need to accelerate works under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), particularly in areas that remain uncovered or have recently been identified as needing infrastructure upgrades. He also issued directions for the resumption of construction work at the PDD Workshop in Margund within the next ten days. The completion of this workshop will play a crucial role in the quick maintenance and repair of damaged electrical infrastructure in the region.

Acknowledging the repeated transformer failures in certain areas, the MLA instructed the concerned officials to prioritize the upgradation of these transformers with more robust and higher-capacity units to prevent future breakdowns.

Hon’ble MLA Meher Ali appreciated the proactive approach of the power department officials and urged them to maintain the momentum on developmental works. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring uninterrupted power supply and timely redressal of power-related grievances across the constituency.

The decisions taken during the meeting have been widely welcomed by residents, particularly the approval of the Mammar Receiving Station, which is being viewed as a major step forward for the region’s power infrastructure.
