Police Crack Down on Rotten Meat and Expired Food items in Ganderbal; Two Arrested

Ganderbal: In a decisive move to safeguard public health, Ganderbal Police have registered two FIRs and arrested two individuals for selling rotten meat and expired food items in the district.

The first case surfaced at Kondabal Safapora, where police received specific information about the sale of unhygienic frozen meat unfit for human consumption. Acting swiftly, a joint team from Police Station Safapora, the Food Safety Officer, and an Executive Magistrate raided the shop of Abdul Hameed Lone, son of Ghulam Hassan Lone, resident of Kondabal. During the inspection, large quantities of boiled meat dishes including Rista and Kabab were found stored in frozen, decayed, and unhygienic conditions. Police registered FIR No. 14/2025 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), arrested the accused, and launched further investigation.

In another case, Police Station Ganderbal acted on a tip-off that expired food items were being used in cooking at Hotel Matamal Food Sale Point in Beehama. On conducting a search of the premises, police recovered a stock of expired food products from the kitchen. FIR No. 145/2025 was subsequently registered, and the hotel owner was arrested on the spot.

Police have reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens from harmful practices, assuring that strict legal action will continue against those endangering public health. Authorities have also urged people to remain vigilant and report such violations immediately.
