Kangan: In a move set to energize local cricket and boost grassroots sports development, the Margund Cricket Board conducted its annual elections today at a local restaurant in Kangan. The event saw participation from all 23 board members, reflecting growing interest and commitment to sports in the region.
Two candidates each contested for the top positions of Chairman and Vice Chairman. In the race for Chairman, Irfan Ahmad Bhat was elected as Chairman, defeating his rival Nawaz Ahmad Shah & Basharat ah, For Vice Chairman, Abdul Qayoom emerged victorious against Showkat Ahmad Gakhad, securing the majority vote.
Arif Shah was elected unopposed as Treasurer, marking his continued involvement in the administrative wing of the board.
The election was conducted through a formal ballot system under the vigilant supervision of the Election Body, which included Hadi Hidayat and Parvaiz Rasool, ensuring transparency, neutrality, and adherence to democratic principles.
The newly elected body has officially taken charge and will serve for a one-year term.
Speaking on the occasion, members emphasized the need to promote cricket and other sports at the grassroots level, improve training facilities, organize regular tournaments, and scout emerging talent from the Margund and adjoining areas. The elected Chairman, Irfan Ahmad Bhat, vowed to work for the upliftment of young athletes, and to ensure that local sports infrastructure sees new growth during the board’s tenure.
This election marks a fresh start for the Margund Cricket Board, aiming to combine experience with youth energy to foster a strong sports culture in the region.
