Kangan-Ganderbal: Residents of Sheikh Mohalla, Margund in Kangan have been facing a severe water crisis for the past month, alleging that certain employees of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department are deliberately blocking the main water pipeline.
Sources within the department claim that some employees recently transferred from the area are behind the obstruction, allegedly due to internal departmental disputes. This act has left hundreds of residents without a single drop of water in their homes.
“We have been suffering for the last one month. There is no water in our houses, and our daily lives are completely disrupted. Why should the public pay the price for the internal matters of the department?” said a local resident from Sheikh Mohalla.
The affected residents have appealed to Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal to intervene in the matter and have urged the concerned department to initiate an urgent inquiry against those responsible.
Repeated attempts to contact Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Ganderbal, Fayaz Ahmad, went unanswered. The official disconnected the call after a few rings & kept the line busy.
After the issue came to light, MLA Kangan, Mian Mehar Ali responded promptly, assuring the residents that the matter will be looked into and that water supply will be restored by this evening.
Locals have condemned the incident, calling it “irresponsible and unacceptable,” and have demanded strict disciplinary action against the culprits, stating that such acts not only cause immense hardship but also tarnish the department’s reputation.
