Kashmir: Experts worldwide agree that the timing of virtual/online classes should be flexible and based on the feasibility and convenience of students. Imposing rigid time-bound schedules defeats the very purpose of online learning, which is meant to be adaptive and accessible. JKTA
The Jammu & Kashmir Teachers Association (JKTA) welcomes the government’s decision to reopen schools after the summer break with revised school hours from 8:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. This move is timely, student-centric, and academically prudent. In a time of growing learning gaps, we cannot allow weather alone to become a barrier to education.
JKTA, however, seeks urgent clarifications on the following points to ensure smooth and effective implementation:
Silence on Primary School Teachers Post-12 Noon
The recent directive does not clarify the duties or schedule of primary school teachers after 12:00 Noon. Since primary students are not included in the online teaching framework, ambiguity remains regarding the expectations from teachers in these schools. A clear guideline is urgently required.
Logistical Challenges in Online Learning
In many rural and working-class households, students lack access to mobile phones during online class hours, as their parents are often at work. This significantly hampers the reach and effectiveness of online education. We urge the department to revisit the timing of online classes in consultation with stakeholders, especially parents, to ensure inclusivity and practical implementation.Experts worldwide agree that the timing of virtual/online classes should be flexible and based on the feasibility and convenience of students. Imposing rigid time-bound schedules defeats the very purpose of online learning, which is meant to be adaptive and accessible.
In the context of Jammu & Kashmir, we believe that student attendance in online classes should be aligned with non regular school timings to maintain consistency, but with enough flexibility to account for ground realities — such as limited access to devices, electricity issues, or parental availability.
This balanced approach will help ensure educational continuity without placing unnecessary pressure on either students or teachers, especially during summer breaks or adverse conditions.
Transport Issues in Ganderbal and Anantnag
Due to the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, In view of the protocols implemented by the government to facilitate the smooth and secure movement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra convoy, some traffic management measures are currently in place. While these protocols are essential for the safety and success of the Yatra,
It is, therefore, requested that the department take up the matter with the concerned quarters to ensure that suitable arrangements are made to facilitate the timely travel of students and teaching staff to their respective schools.
JKTA reaffirms its commitment to the cause of education and calls upon the authorities to issue clear, district-sensitive, and practical guidelines so that the academic process can proceed smoothly, safely, and effectively for all stakeholders.
